200th league win for Ithaca, Schneider
It wasn’t just any win for Ithaca’s boys bowling team last Saturday at Pins, where the Yellowjackets defeated Essexville Garber, 22-8 in a TVC match. The victory represented the program’s 200th all-time league win, and the 200th for coach Wally Schneider.
“I’m pretty proud of the accomplishment,” Schneider said. “There are very few programs that have achieved 200 wins. We have had some great athletes over the last 23 years.”
Since the program’s inception in the 2003-04 school year, Ithaca had 10 league championship, five regional crowns and 13 state finals berths, including a runner-up finish in 2014. Individually, the Yellowjackets have had four bowlers throw 300 games, with four regional champions and 36 state qualifiers.
For win No. 200, Ithaca led 6-4 after the Baker games then dominated the first Peterson game, 835-758. The second was back and forth, with the Jackets emerging with a 773-695 victory.
Greg Barton had Ithaca’s high games, scoring 225 and 212. Brody LeBaron scored 174 and 664 and Neil Anderson 177.
Ithaca and Alma are both 6-2 in the TVC, behind first-place, 8-0 Bay City John Glenn.
In the TVC girls stadnings, John Glenn is in first at 8-0, with Ithaca second at 7-1. The Yellowjackets beat Garber last Saturday, 29-1.
