Scots KO’d in MIAA

Alma College’s women’s basketball team was eliminated by Calvin University in the opening round of the MIAA tournament, losing 60-51 to conclude the Scots’ season.
Alma had its first made field goal of the night at 3:46, which saw the scoring pick up. At the end of the first, Alma trailed 18-12. To open the second quarter, Calvin put together a pair of makes to extend their lead to eight points. Out of the halftime break it was Alma who seized momentum. The Scots opened with six straight points to take their first lead of the game at 31-30. The road team tussled for the lead with Calvin for several minutes, before the Knight took it back for what would turn out to be the final time with 4:42 to go in the third. The hosts tried to run away, but a late pair of free throws saw the Scots enter the fourth quarter trailing 42-39. In the final period, Calvin opened with a decisive 9-0 run that would turn out to be the difference. Despite a late push by the Scots, the was the Knights who would run out the clock.
