The Gratiot County Parks and Recreation Commission honored a longtime member at its December meeting as Ken Davis of Ashley wrapped up 14 years on the board.
“He says it’s time for the younger generation to step in with fresh ideas and that his wife told him it’s time,” Parks and Recreation Director Jonathan Rayburn said.
The commission credited Davis with supporting the growth of the county parks system during his tenure, including improvements such as new vault toilets, concession stands and beach house upgrades.
“He was a great asset to have on the board while having great insights and ideas to improve the Gratiot County parks,” Rayburn said.
Davis’ seat has since been filled by Breckenridge resident Lyle McCoon Jr.
The Gratiot Parks and Recreation Commission also includes Chair Sam Smith, Vice Chair Tim Lambrecht, Steve Sopocy (Board of Commissioners), David Justin (Planning Commission), Derek Hessbrook (Road Commission), Jennifer Wing (Drain Commission), Jerry Lewis, Karla Childers and Matt Ahearn.
The board typically meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at 1375 S. County Farm Drive, Ithaca.
