Gary Lee Zimmerman, beloved husband, passed away Tues., Sept.16, 2025.
Funeral Services were held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, on Fri., Sept. 19, 2025. Burial will take place at Elm Hall Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thurs., Sept. 18, 2025, at the funeral home.
He was born in Alma, on March 30, 1948. He was the son of Alvin Sylvester and Juanita Frances (McKrill) Zimmerman. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the Class of 1967. He married Judy Mabel Zimmerman, on Nov. 24, 1967, at St. Louis United Methodist Church, St. Louis, for fifty-seven years.
He served in the U.S. Army as an E6 Sergeant in the Vietnam War; he then went on to serve in the Michigan National Guard in Alma for six years. He was honorably discharge from both services. Gary was a safety supervisor last for Brenner Oil Transport for 17 years. Before that, he served as a police officer in Alma for six years. A natural leader and hard worker, Gary always found himself in upper management roles with other employers.
He was an active member of the community; he spent two years as a scout leader for the Northern Michigan chapter where he helped the troops win sledding competitions and taught them how to paddle in canoes. He could fix any computer you gave him, and helped many people in the community with their technical issues. He was also of the United Methodist Faith, and was part of many congregations in the area. He never gave up on himself, his family, and his community. He was always around to lend a hand no matter who it was. He was a life member and charter member of Fred E. Richards VFW Post 3055. Gary Lee Zimmerman was a life member of the Alma Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Scott (Malissa) Zimmerman of Remus; his siblings, Janet Hoffstetter, Douglas (Mary) Zimmerman, Keith (Melva) Zimmerman, Dennis (Joann) Zimmerman, Brian (Jolie) Zimmerman, and David (Ellen) Zimmerman. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth Renea Romero, and Maria Lynn Romero; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christina Renea Romero; and brothers, Ronald Zimmerman, and Alvin Zimmerman.
