If all falls into place, doors to a former Alma retail store will swing open to a different clientele of seekers by the end of next year.
The Community Church of Mt. Pleasant intends to open a campus inside the former JCPenney building at 1680 Wright Ave. Executive Pastor Eric Barz said the square footage will be split in half by a dividing wall with the nondenominational community church occupying the north section.
He estimated church space just over 30,000 square feet.
Strip mall owner, Bobenal Investments Inc based in East Lansing, will erect the wall and oversee the southerly portion.
“It will become two street addresses with two property descriptions,” Barz noted.
“We are waiting on a physical division and a final survey. Then we will start working on developing the space. We are hoping before end of 2023 to have everything built out.”
