Losing a loved one can be especially confusing and devastating to a child. MidMichigan Home Care and Hospice of Helping Hands are helping to meet the needs of children who are grieving by offering Camp Warm Hearts, a camp just for children who have lost a loved one.
Camp Warm Hearts, an indoor weekend winter camp, will be held from Feb. 5 to 7, 2010 at The Springs Camp, 1950 M-30 in Gladwin. It is open to children and teens between the ages of 5 and 15 who have experienced the death of a loved one.
The camp is led by trained bereavement coordinators and will include an opportunity for the children to meet other children with similar experiences. Included is information on recognizing grief, coping mechanisms and many fun-filled activities. Children who participate learn how to grieve the loss of their loved one through specialized activities and experiences. Educational opportunities will also be offered for parents and caregivers.
The cost to attend the weekend camp is $71 per child. If finances are a barrier, parents or caregivers are encouraged to inquire about available scholarships.
