Friends of the Maple River to hold meeting

The Friends of the Maple River will hold their March meeting on Wednesday, the 17th, at the Ovid Township Hall located at 1015 Baese Court in Ovid. The township hall is located approximately two tenths of a mile east of Hollister Road on the south side of Highway M-21 in the village of Ovid. The meeting will start at 7 p.m.

The featured speaker for the evening will be Casey Elliot who is the Environmental Health Sanitarian for the Shiawassee County Health Department. He will discuss the problem of failing or inadequate sewage septic systems and the hazard they pose to the Maple River watershed and other watersheds in the area. He will also explain how Shiawassee County handles these environmental problems. There will also be a presentation by a local contractor on the replacement and cost options for inadequate or failing septic systems.

There will also be discussions about the 319 Upper Maple River Watershed Management plan and other items pertaining to the Maple River and its watershed.
