To the Editor:
As Memorial Day nears I wonder what the brave soldiers who died fighting for our liberty might think about the fact that America, as they knew it, is being destroyed by its own Government. One by one our liberties are being taken.
In April 2011, Michigan Senator Proos of St. Joseph introduced SB 333, a bill requiring an instant background check be run on anyone purchasing over-the-counter cold medications containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. A State Police database will track names and sales. Taxpayers will pay... On May 19 State Representatives Lori and Meadows introduced HB 4662 a bill to make ephedrine and pseudoephedrine available by prescription only. Once again the rights of the majority are being taken because a few people violate.
Indiana courts have ruled police may enter and search private homes without warrant or cause. The Patriot Act, currently up for renewal, allows searches of phone, financial records, library cards and homes without warrants
California has mandated schools teach gay-lesbian history in all schools; while in Florida two school employees were charged with criminal contempt for asking for a blessing before a meal. “Prayer” or “blessing” is now illegal in the schools of Santa Rosa County.
President Obama told us that he would use stimulus dollars to build roads and bridges. Now he wants to tax “each mile” we drive so that he has money to “build roads.”
The National Labor Relations Board is suing Boeing, a private company, because it built a manufacturing plant in South Carolina, a right-to-work State. Unions are pushing to have a voice in where businesses locate and how they function. Companies may have no alternative but to move overseas – another loss for the U. S.
As citizens of this once great Country we must battle for our Constitutional rights. It’s our duty to examine political candidates in order to make wise voting decisions and rebuild our Republic.

Dear Editor:
Congratulations to Dr. Murray Gross and the Alma Symphony Orchestra for an amazing 51st season. The performances were simply spectacular. Many thanks also to the Alma Symphony Council for all your hard work and dedication during the past 12 months. As a reminder to the public, and all of our appreciated supporters, the Council will be sponsoring our annual “Pancakes in the Park” event Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Wright Park in Alma. This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. Thank you Gratiot County for your overwhelming support of this event in the past! Hope to see you again over the weekend!!
